Anyone else have a tween? Let me tell you, the struggle is real. My daughter is 12 and all I can say is I might just hate this age. I’m ready to skip the entire teenager years or revert back to under 10.
One of our biggest struggles is with her brushing her teeth. She HATES the taste of mint. She won’t even eat a candy cane (what is wrong with her?!)
So, for years we have had issues. Most of the kids toothpastes are just that- for kids. She has adult teeth which she has yet to comprehend. A few years back, she got diagnosed with gingivitis and she had to use a special mouth rinse and of course it only comes in mint. That was the beginning of the end. It was a nightly temper tantrum, tears and literally having to hold her down to get the stuff in her mouth.
That only made her hatred of mint that much worse. I was able to supplement with a brand of adult toothpaste that came in Pink Grapefruit. And, of course it got discontinued so I pick my battles and just let her brush her teeth with kids toothpaste. I mean, at least she is brushing right???
For a few months now, we have been seeing new kids toothpaste from Hello and they have some pretty cool flavors like blue raspberry, watermelon and bubble gum. She always asking me to buy it but I could never justify spending almost $4 on toothpaste when I get that shit by the case load for free!
We are in Walmart checking out the clearance stuff and of course we spot the Hello toothpaste and it is an immediate “I want it!!!” After being asked over and over and over again for months, I just gave in. “Fine, you want it? If I buy it will you shut up and leave me alone?” OK, well, I didn’t actually say those things but my mind certainly did.
But, I couldn’t just buy it at full price without at least checking to see if there was some way, any way I could save just a little bit on the price. I pull out my phone and check the Coupon Database to see if we have coupons. BIG fat NO.
OK, I google the brand to see if any other stores might sell it for cheaper. Nope. Most of the stores don’t even carry it.
Last ditch effort, I open up my Ibotta app and search for the brand. BAM! There is a rebate for $1 in my app!
Phew. My heart feels much better that at least I didn’t have to pay full price for it and let me tell you, as soon as I checked out and the cashier handed me my receipt, my Ibotta app was already open and scanned and redeemed my rebate right in the checkout lane that’s how excited I was that I didn’t have to pay full price. It embarrassed my daughter but until she actually understands the concept of money, too bad for her. We both won that day 🙂
Tweens. They can be so stubborn (and expensive) sometimes <3
