OK, so my basement was starting to get taken over with laundry detergent. I ran out of room on the shelf for them and just started collecting them on the floor.
Not the best option and I was really starting to get sick of looking at them (heck, who am I kidding) tripping over them every time I was bringing down more stuff to the stockpile.
My daughter actually volunteered to help me. She is 12 so normally she thinks this coupon stuff is stupid. She wants what she wants when she wants and could care less about the price and really thinks what I do is stupid. Probably because she has grown up with it all her life and “Lets go shopping” is followed by an eye roll rather than a YAY response from her. Sometimes I swear that girl might not belong to me if it weren’t for the fact she is practically my twin.
Anyway, we were able to move some stuff around (I thought about taking a picture AFTER I already started clearing stuff out- that empty space was full) and make room for everything beside 1 bottle of bleach.
Ta-da! Clean and organized and pretty! I have to do the best I can to squeeze stuff in to spaces because I have 8 very full shelves and I keep asking my husband for another one and he flat out refuses. He already had to give up the basement to the stockpile so I’m fighting a losing battle.
Funny (not so funny) story. Back to the husband 🙂 A month ago my daughter and I were cleaning her room. She had this big huge wood bookcase that was filled with all her junk and she wanted it out of site. We tried so hard to get it into her closet (her closet is just wide open) and it just wouldn’t fit.
I made a deal with her. I would give her one of my shelves from the basement and I would just take her bookcase. Sounds like a great paln right? We empty off my shelf and get it up to her room and it fits perfectly in her closet. We get all her toys and books organized on her new shelf. She is all set so now we worry about getting the bookcase down to the basement and setting all of my stuff back up on it.
Complete and utter no go! We could not get it down the basement stairs. We then tried to get it down to the basement through the hatchway. Didn’t fit that way either! Literally, the bookcase was inches from fitting anywhere.
My idea had backfired. I thought my daughter and I could switch out shelves while hubby is at work and he wouldn’t even know the difference. Well, when he walks in the door from work, there was this big ole’ bookcase staring him in the face because the thing wouldn’t fit anywhere except in our entryway! Caught out!
I tried to get him to help me but that wasn’t happening. A few days later, we were out driving and I saw a sign for a tag sale. I wanted to stop. He asked me what I needed and I told him I was looking for a shelf. Guess who didn’t get to go to the tag sale? This girl! And, guess who is not allowed to replace the shelf that I had tried to switch out. Yup, this girl again.
Apparently my husband thinks I have a problem buying things and that I don’t need anymore. He just doesn’t understand. Years and years of dealing with my couponing, he still just doesn’t get.
This would be why I do all my shopping while he is at work so I can get it in the house and put away so he doesn’t even notice 🙂
