Today I took the long ride out to Chicopee MA to do a segment with Mass Appeal about “How to Eat Healthy on a Budget”! Check out my great tips to help you eat healthy and still keep on saving!
- Meal Plan by shopping the sales! Cook and buy what’s on sale based on the week’s sales flyer. Last week, I stocked up on ground turkey because I was able to get it for under $1 a package.
- FREEZE!- speaking of that ground turkey, when you buy in bulk, it is a great idea to freeze for meals for the following weeks. I try to stock up on meats to get us through at least 3-4 weeks of meals if the price is right!
- Overcook- When I cook, I cook for an army instead of a family of 3. That way we have left overs for lunch or freeze a batch for a quick dinner.
- Shop in season! – Even fruits and veggies go on sale. To save the most, make sure to shop for items that are in season. These items will be listed in your store sales flyers or advertised in store at lower prices. Buy them in bulk and freeze them!
- Use coupons! Yes! There are even coupons for healthy foods including organic. If you can’t find them, write an email to a company expressing interest in coupons and provide your mailing address and most will send you coupons in the mail!
- use rebate apps- Many of the rebate apps such as SavingStar and ibotta offer you cash back on healthy purchases such as fruits and veggies, eggs milk and even meats!
- watch for grocery sales at target- Every few months, Target will run a promotion where you can earn a $10 gift card with a $50 grocery purchase! Plus, you can use their Cartwheel app to save a percentage off fresh items and meats too!
- Store coupons! Make sure to check your store sales flyer for additional savings on items such as fresh fruits and veggies and even meats! My grocery store had a bonus coupon for ground beef for only $1.99 lb.!
